I just bought these great sandals for a cruise we will be taking in a few weeks and I cannot wait to wear them. I bought them on Etsy. I just love the handmade stuff you can get there. They are – colorful – unique – handmade – fun and they feel great (picture below). I’m so excited for the cruise and my new sandals.
Anyway, I tried my sandals on and they look fantastic! Then I looked at my feet. Now my feet are in pretty good shape, but I do have problem areas I need to work on. You know, the areas that are dry and cracked. Feet can take such a beating in our busy lives.
So I decided to start with a home remedy foot soak, and you know really concentrate on those problem areas so I would be ready for the cruise.
Home Remedy Foot Soak
I’m going to share instructions how I do my foot soak and if you try it I hope you see a big difference like me.
Step 1. Get the following items together for your home remedy foot soak:
- large bowl – I like the deep plastic rectangular ones
- towel
- pumice stone, foot file, or Amope
- ½ cup salt (table salt works well)
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 2 quarts water
This is enough to completely cover the feet and give them a good soaking.
Step 2. Use warm water but not hot. Hot water will dry your skin and that is not what we want. Then add the vinegar and salt. Mix well until salt is dissolved. Don’t worry about the vinegar smell it will go away as it dries.
Step 3. Soak your feet for about 15 – 20 minutes. Even though it may feel really good, don’t go over 20 minutes or you could actually dry out the skin.
Step 4. Remove feet from the soak, pat dry if needed and use the pumice stone or foot file to remove the hardened skin you need to work on. You will find the acid in the vinegar has really softened the skin and made it easier to remove the hardened skin on the bottom of your feet.
Step 5. Apply foot cream that will retain moisturize like Okeeffe’s For Healthy Feet , and wear cotton or gel socks. Give your feet a good massage with the foot cream. This helps the cream absorb into the skin really well. The foot cream along with the socks (especially the gel socks) will transform any problem areas you have with your feet.
If you try the home remedy foot soak let me know how it worked for you. Do you wear gel socks? Do you have tips to smooth your feet? Let me know below in the comments.
Give Your Feet That Extra Step
I wear my gel socks to bed afterwards because I have found it helps my feet to feel much softer. The next day when I woke up my feet look and feel great. I’ll give my feet another soak again next week leading up to my trip.
My feet are going to be so soft for the cruise and my new sandals.
Now the only thing left to do is pack my suitcase and my glorious sandals – getting ready for 5 beautiful days cruising the Caribbean.
